Goodbye Bus!

Today was my last ride on the bus! We had a love hate relationship the bus and I. it took me about four months to figure her out. Its wasn’t easy but once I got the timing right, we had a decent relationship with minimal abuse. But none the less I’m A little too excited to say bye bye bus, I hope to never see you again.

Ps. Thanks for not making me wait for you in the pouring rain this morning. We ended things on a good note!

The Group Shot

March 25, 2010

Mr. K and I are HUGE fans of How I Met Your Mother an awesome show that comes on Mondays nights on CBS. I could totally relate to this weeks episode, which was about your friends ruining the classic group shot by bringing in random one night only dates, whose names no one can remember 5 years down the line. My dilemma is a little different – the people in my photos were not randoms they were people who had long term relationship with two people very close to my heart.

Recently two people very near and dear to me broke up with their long term other havles, my brother and JS. During the time of my wedding both had been dating their others for a while in serious committed relationships. These people appear in quite a few of my wedding photos, including a few family shots. A few pictures including these now hated exed out other halves have made it into my wedding album (since the breaking up did not happen until after the picture choosing had already taken place).

So now I have a dilemma, do I want my brothers crazy ex in my wedding album? Do I want JS’s  psychotic ex in my huge group shot that ends my book? Although these people played significant parts in the lives of my loved ones – they were not one of my besties. So should they live out their immortality in my wedding album??? I think not, especially since no one ever want to see them again. Seems to make sense to photoshop them out so no one ever had to see them again. Right? Right.

Wedding Album Proofs!

March 24, 2010

Recently we got to see the proof of our wedding album! It took us forever to choose the 60 or 70 photos that are going into our album. There was much debate, and we spent about 2 hours in the photography studio mulling over our decisions. Then one day I received an e-mail saying that the proof of our wedding album was finished! Joy!

I was nervous about seeing the proof. I like to have control over certain situations – I didn’t know if I could trust our photographers to create a stunning photo book. How were they supposed to know which photos were our favorites and are one we want showcased? How are they supposed to tell our story when the album designer wasn’t even at our wedding?

I have to admit they did a great job on the book! Granted there were about 4 pages of notes on things that we wanted changed/photoshopped but all in all the book looks good and we look good! Plus it was really fun reliving our wedding day!

Spring Skier

March 21, 2010

I’m not gonna lie, on Friday the thought of leaving the sunny 70 degree weather of NYC for skiing in Vermont did not appeal to me in the slightest. But the fact that we got stay in Mr.K’s friend’s newly remodeled slope side condo, eased the tension a bit. It was gorgeous, not to mention it’s a quick walk to the mountain.

I realized this weekend that I am a spring skier; my season should start in March and end in April. I don’t know if it was the super bright warm sun, my brand new shiny ski boots, or the fact that I was skiing comfortably in just a fleece, but my grimace melted away into a smile. This was a great weekend to ski! The mountain was not overly crowded, and my knee could handle the terrain with no problems. My welcome back to skiing could not have been more perfect.

Mr.K skied with me on the green bunny hill for two hours as I tested out my knee, and tried to get back into the groove of skiing. For me this weekend was the beginning and the end of my ski season, since I injured my knee on the second run of my season and haven’t seen a ski hill until this weekend. I was nervous driving up the mountain on Saturday, but by Sunday I was skiing down from the top with no problems. Mr. K and I ended the season on a great note, and now I’m ready to welcome in the spring!

Eating the Freezer

March 19, 2010

Mr. K and I have locked down our move out day! For a while I was worried that we would not be able to find available movers, but we got lucky and our super cheap mover became available.

A few weeks back I was really into making soups and chili – I made double batches of everything I cooked up and froze half. All of these homemade concoctions are sitting in our freezer begging to be eaten before we move. Mr. K and I set a goal to eat as much of our existing food as we possible can before we move. There will be no moving boxes full of half-eaten food like s the last time. So we have about two weeks eat our way through our food supply. I’m expecting things to get pretty interesting as the days go by. Hopefully I will be able to create some innovative delicious recipes, instead of kitchen disasters. Only time will tell, as for right now we have had a bag of cooked white beans sitting lonely in our fridge for the past two days. I’mcounting on this weekend to provide me with some rustic recipes for my average beans.

So in an attempt to reach our goal we brought a few snacks for the car ride:

1/3 brick of cream cheese

1/3 bag of wheat thins

huge bag of sun chips

1/4 bag kettle chips

6 beers

2 diet cokes

large bag of twizzlers

couple handfuls of trail mix

If all goes well we will not be returning with any of it

Couch

March 16, 2010

On a side not before I begin this entry I would like to say that in college I somehow earned the nickname couch. Apparently every time certain people would come over I was always lounging on the couch in the same position as if I had never moved. This post entitled couch brought back this memory.

Today Mr. K and I bought a couch – neither Mr. K nor myself have ever bought a couch before, collectively or separately. In our last two apartment seating has been sparse. There are always a few people sitting a little too close for comfort on our too small couch or trying to precariously balance themselves on our 8″ wide backless stools. So for this purchase we decided to go big, or just go home – to our ridiculously small couch, which was not an option. So we scanned the typical couch websites, and found a cheeky little sectional whose measurements and price was right! We paid and placed the order.Nnow we wait for him to come on home! With a bit of luck our days of awkward seating will be over come April 18th! All he will need are a couple spicy throw pillows and he should fit right in.

Purging

March 15, 2010

Mr. K and I brought a whole lotta disorganized mess to our NJ apartment. Truth be told we didn’t have much time to purge all of our files and various paper stacks stacked around our former pad. So now instead of having one small disorganized mess we have we have two – the one we dragged across the river and the one we acquired on the other side. I refuse to carry this baggage to our next stop. It’s time to purge.

I have a really terrible habit of saving everything! During the 30 minutes I spent ransacking some of  my files I found:

  • Bank and credit card statements from 2005
  • Medical records from college
  • A used tea bag from my London trip with Mr. K (I did find this to be a little creepy)
  • Around 50 extra buttons clipped from shirts and pants I bought over the past 5 years

I shredded everything but the tea bag and the buttons. The tea bag stays on the following grounds:

  • That was Mr. K and my first international trip together
  • I am really big into tea. London is really big into tea time. Hence for me this is a souvenir.

So in 30 minutes I successfully converted my big pile of crap into a small neatly contained tidy pile of important documents. This is only the beginning of the fun. Wednesday is major purge day, which I’m sure will lead to a chaotic papery mess in our living room.

Moving on Up!

March 14, 2010

That’s right! Mr. K and I are moving on up – literally! We are leaving our third floor walk up in ghetto suburbia for a penthouse apartment in the sky! Our new neighbors will be lady Liberty and the Exchange Place path station! Goodbye horrendous cab lines, hello 5 minute walk home!

Today we signed our lease and made it official, for the next 15 months we will be living on the NJ waterfront. However signing that lease was not as easy as I thought. We sat down and read the lease picking outs the part that we deemed unnecessary. Much to our annoyance these parts seemed nonnegotiable. So lease unsigned up headed up to our apartment to take measurements and figure out exactly how much space we have.

Doubt entered my mind as we entered the apartment. My head kept trying to tell me that it wasn’t big enough, we needed more closet space, the kitchen sink was  too shallow, why don’t the window open? Thses thoughts kept swirling through my head, making me feel like this was a mistake – giving me cold apartment feet.

After 2 hours of measuring, deliberating and spacial configurating I sat down on the windowsill and glanced around the living room. As I sat staring into my empty living room everything seemed to click. This is right, the space is perfect, the apartment is amazing, I know that the next 15 months spent here is going to be an amazing time! As I sat there eye to eye with my apartment I realized that this is all the space we need. I have space now that I don’t even use, yet still have to clean – not an ideal partnership. Not to mention I want the decor for this apartment to be minimal chic. I am hoping to convince Mr. K to go along with this and retire from his furniture crafting. So hopefully in another month I will be welcoming people into my nicely streamlined apartment.

Droid

March 13, 2010

Today my hope of becoming a Wii Olympian was crushed, Djoubtwii did not perform like we had hoped. We even started a fight with Wiireland, the gold medal winner, bringing shame to our country.

Mr. K and I spent the entire day driving around NYC in a torrential downpour – it was bad, and I officially regret throwing away my rain boots. I really cannot comprehend how my umbrella survived the hurricane like winds that were swirling around 84th street.

This ugly day was highlighted by my new smart phone purchase! I have officially stepped into the 21st century with my new Droid, outfitted it its girlie purple case! Normally I am not all about outfitting my phone with frilly cases and protective gear, but TC persuaded me into gearing up my phone. To me the Droid is a very manly phone, it is black metal and growls Droid. My purple cover takes away the mannishness and probably makes me love my phone even more. Mr. K has a Droid too and was a major advocate for me buying mine. I am a little afraid that instead of conversing with each other we will end up spending every meal playing on our phones. This thought scares me a little bit especially after I noticed that the couple sitting next to us didn’t say one word to each other during their meal. But I figure that since Mr. K and I have already been through so much craziness during the past 6 month – a little Droid won’t be able to take us down!
